The term “charging station organizer” sounds so…bland and uninspired, but I knew I needed something to store all of my family’s devices and charge them in one space.
And, as you can see, we have a lot:
My office is actually a built-in desk in our kitchen, so it’s the perfect central place for a charging station.
The challenge: find a container that would hold our gazillion devices AND look cute and stylish at the same time.

I spotted a cute and inexpensive black wooden mail sorter at my local HomeGoods, and I was thrilled! It was perfect, with slots wide enough for our largest iPad and small enough for iPhones and portable chargers.
Amazon has a similar style to mine here:
Next, I had to swap out a standard electrical outlet and install a 4-port USB outlet:
If you do this step yourself, you’ll need to turn off the power before you disconnect the standard outlet and reconnect the wires to the USB outlet.
The video below provides step-by-step instructions for swapping out a traditional outlet for a dual USB outlet.
After I installed the outlet, I drilled holes in the bottom of each mail slot wide enough to accommodate a USB charging cable.
Then I plugged in the cables, installed the devices in their mail slots, and ensured they were all charging properly.
Finally, I wanted to cover the cables that ran from the mail sorter to the wall outlet. I found a pretty farmhouse-style hanging photo frame, added some family photos, and voila!
Turned out pretty great, if I do say so myself! If you try this project (or have completed your own DIY charging station organizer), please leave a comment below!
